Early morning alarms, three different boarding passes, and black coffee. Suddenly I’m on my way to my newest adventure. Needless to say, these past few days have been a little chaotic. I completed my bachelor’s, moved out of my favorite co-op, and did my best to pack for a five-month experience in a place I’ve never been. But as soon as the plane pulled away from the first gate, I waved goodbye to Detroit and felt calm—and unbelievably excited.
Yes, it really did happen! I graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Professional Writing, and a minor in Museum Studies. I’m still in a bit of shock; it feels strange to be a student for roughly seventeen years and then suddenly not be. Of course, I still have plenty to learn, which is why I accepted a job with the National Park Service. I’ll be living and working in Kotzebue with the Northwest Arctic Heritage Center as the Environmental Education & Media intern!
I thought that because I’m traveling to such a unique place that is very far from friends, family, and familiarity, I’d like to start a blog to write down my experiences this summer. If you’re a friend back home, or you’re simply a curious acquaintance, you can check back here every once in awhile to see what I end up sharing!
